Oliver Wakefield
Osteopath
Oliver grew up in Devon and after spending much of his life living abroad and travelling he returned to the west country with a first class honors degree in Osteopathy from the European School of Osteopathy. Passionate about sports, especially squash, Oliver is particularly interested in treating sports related injuries.
However during his time studying he treated a wide variety of patients from different backgrounds with a wide variety of injuries and conditions including pains and discomfort arising from occupational activities, pregnancy, arthritic pain as well as neck, back, hip, knee and shoulder pain.
Oliver is particularly interested in how restriction or poor movement in one part of the body causes pain and dysfunction. This dysfunction may arise from repetitive activities, postural imbalances or stress arising from everyday life or psychological and physical trauma.
A consultation with Oliver starts with a detailed case history of the patient outlining the presenting complaint, past trauma, medical history and a thorough health screen. Analysis of posture and movement then occurs during the physical assessment with a view to providing an accurate diagnosis and prognosis for the patient.
Oliver uses a wide variety of techniques to restore balance and harmony to the body including articulation, mobilization and soft tissue work while working closely alongside patients for better pain management and postural guidance. Oliver also often prescribes achievable home exercises including strengthening, stretching and mobilizing for faster recovery and rehabilitation.
