Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is an established therapy to treat injury or disease by physical means, to influence and enhance the body’s own natural healing mechanism without the use of drugs unless prescribed by your doctor.
At the first visit the Physiotherapist will begin by taking a full case history, then you will be given standard orthopaedic and neurological tests and the movement of your joints will be checked. Your condition will then be explained to you and treatment will be discussed and carried out, if necessary.
Physiotherapy is suitable for everyone, including the elderly, pregnant women and sports enthusiasts.
  • Joint Mobilisations
  • Gentle manipulations
  • Soft Tissue & Sports Massage
  • Electrotherapy eg Ultrasound therapy
  • Exercise, Posture Advice & Rehabilitation
  • Acupuncture (with or without needles)
  • Strapping and Taping
  • Spinal Problems : Slipped discs, back pain, sciatica, stiff or painful neck and referred arm and leg pain. Also headaches and migraines can be treated.
  • Joint Problems : Arthritis, pain/swelling/stiffness in joints such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles.
  • Injuries : Injuries to muscles, ligaments, tendons (including ‘tennis elbow’), cartilage problems, sprained ankles and dislocations.
  • Fractures : Treatment may be given during the healing process or to restore function once the bones have healed.
  • Chest Complaints : Pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthma.
  • Obstetrics : Ante and post-natal exercise and advice, pregnancy back ache.
There is no set number and this will depend on the severity and length of time you’ve had your problem. Most problems need a short course of treatment. Occasionally for minor problems only a couple of treatments may be needed. The majority, though, may need a course of 4 to 6 treatments designed for your particular problem.

These are normally on a weekly basis and occasionally twice weekly if needed. Your Physiotherapist will give some idea at the onset. For those with more long-term conditions, maintenance treatment may be suggested for the future to maintain improvement.

For your body to function well, its structure must also work well and be in good balance.

Treatment is individually tailored to each patient.

Advice on posture, diet and appropriate exercises are routinely given.
