About Massage

Massage can be used in conjunction with the osteopathy and physiotherapy provided at the practice. Our practitioners sometimes refer (with the consent of the patient) to each other if they feel that a problem can be resolved more effectively by using a combination of therapy’s. Massage can be very useful to relax tense muscles before osteopathic manipulation or to help return muscle tone to normal before starting a strengthening exercise program.
Massage is a therapy that has been used for centuries as a way to relieve muscle tension and to relax the body and mind. Swedish massage uses a combination of stroking, kneading, pressure and flowing movements over the body to treat and prevent a variety of complaints, or can simply be used for deep relaxation. Massage also helps to stimulate the lymphatic system, assisting your body in the elimination of stored toxins helping to strengthen your immune system.
General benefits of Massage include:
  • Promotes relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety
  • Improved skin tone, circulation and elasticity
  • Elimination of toxins
  • Boosts immune system
  • Relieves tired and stiff joints
  • Aids better sleep, reducing insomnia
There is now a growing body of evidence to support the osteopathic treatment of certain common acute and chronic conditions. The National Institute of Clinical Excellence recommends manipulative therapies such as osteopathy for the treatment of low back pain.
